DU Wei

Dr Wei Du, received her bachelor's and doctoral degrees from the Department of Biological Engineering at South China University of Technology in 1997 and 2002 respectively. From August 2002 to August 2004, she conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. In 2004, she was awarded the honorary title of "Excellent Postdoctoral Fellow of Tsinghua University". From August 2009 to August 2010, she conducted an academic visit at MIT. She won the "Academic Newcomer Award" of Tsinghua University in 2010 and was selected into the "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program" of the Ministry of Education in 2013. Her main research interest is bio-refining of bioenergy and bio-based chemicals. As the primary inventor, the enzymatic method for producing biodiesel has been successfully industrialized in multiple enterprises. More than 100 SCI papers have been published in important journals in the field of biochemical engineering. She was selected as Elsevier China's highly cited scholar for ten consecutive years from 2014 to 2023. 30 invention patents have been authorized by China, and international patents have been authorized by more than 20 countries including the United States, Singapore, and Europe. She has won many awards, including the "First Prize for Technical Invention" and "First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress" from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, the "Blue Sky Award" from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the "Gold Medal" from the Geneva International Patent Invention Exhibition, the "Hou Debang Chemical Technology Youth Award" from the China Chemical Industry Society, and the "Youth Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award" from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.

Research interest & publications

Dr. Wei. Du is dedicated to the research of biorefinery of renewable resources for bioenergy and bio-based chemicals production. Some achievements (such as enzyme-mediated biodiesel production

from renewable oil sources) have been industrialized with Dr. Wei Du as one of the principle investigators.She has applied for about 20 invention patents of China, in which 15 have been authorized in China and 3 international patent applications (PCT) have been authorized in many countries.

As the corresponding author, she has more than 50 academic papers published in SCI indexing journals, such as Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews,Biotechnology & Bioengineering,Green
