On the morning of July 6, 2026, the opening ceremony of the second Tsinghua University International Summer Camp on Green Biomanufacturing was held at Yingshi Building, Department of Chemical Engineering. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University; the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Industrial Biocatalysis; the National Key Laboratory of Green Biomanufacturing; and the Beijing Key Laboratory of Recombinant Protein Synthetic Biomanufacturing. Fifteen international students from eight countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Greece, Russia and Belarus, together with fourteen outstanding undergraduates from Nanjing Normal University, gathered at Tsinghua University to begin a two-week academic and practical research journey.
Professor Zhang Qiang, Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering; Professor Ge Jun, Deputy Party Secretary of the Department of Chemical Engineering; Professor Li Chun, Director of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Industrial Biocatalysis; Professor Yu Huimin, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Industrial Biocatalysis; and Ms. Chen Qing, counselor from the School of Food and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Nanjing Normal University, attended the opening ceremony.

Afterwards, the participants took part in project selection, ice-breaking activities and a laboratory tour. This year’s summer camp offers 13 research practice projects, supported by seven laboratory teams, with 13 teaching assistants providing full-process guidance. Volunteers and teaching assistants led the participants on a tour of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Industrial Biocatalysis, as well as related laboratories on the 3rd to 6th floors of Yingshi Building. They introduced the core research directions and research platforms of each laboratory team in detail, helping participants quickly become familiar with the research environment.
Over the next two weeks, participants will take part in a wide range of activities, including frontier academic lectures, visits to industrial enterprises, and hands-on laboratory practice. The summer camp serves as an international bridge for academic exchange among young scholars, helping participants strengthen their research capabilities, experience Tsinghua’s spirit of rigorous scholarship, and gain deeper insights into the development trends of the green biomanufacturing industry. It also builds a lasting bond for exchange and learning between Chinese and international students, leaving them with a unique and memorable Tsinghua research experience.
