From May 31 to June 5, the 2025 Department of Chemical Engineering Doctoral Academic Forum and the 801st Tsinghua University Doctoral Academic Forum were held in the Gongwu Building and the Ying-Shih Building. The forum was jointly organized by the Tsinghua University Graduate School, the Party Committee Graduate Student Work Department, the Department of Chemical Engineering, and the Graduate Student Union, and hosted by the Graduate Student Workgroup of the Department of Chemical Engineering Party Committee together with the Graduate Student Sub-Union. It attracted the enthusiastic participation of young scholars from nine universities, including Peking University and Zhejiang University.
Opening Ceremony
At the opening ceremony, Professor Zhang Qiang, Dean of the Department of Chemical Engineering, welcomed the guests and encouraged young scholars to delve deeply into their disciplines, broaden their thinking, strive for excellence in scientific research, and actively serve national strategic needs.
During the opening ceremony, a conferral ceremony was held to appoint Professor Sang-Young Lee of Yonsei University (Republic of Korea) as an Honorary Professor of Tsinghua University. In the forum’s invited lecture session, Professor Sang-Young Lee and Professor Pei Jian of Peking University delivered talks titled “Scalable High-Areal-Capacity Battery Electrodes” and “Photo-Triggered Region-Controlled n-Doping of Organic Semiconductors,” respectively.
The forum included five sub-sessions on Materials Science and Engineering, Green Resources, Energy Materials, Biohealth, and Intelligent Ecology, along with one all-English poster forum and one “Hundred Flowers of Chemistry” satellite forum. In total, 60 oral presentations were delivered, and 56 academic posters were exhibited.
On June 5, the forum invited Professor Omar M. Yaghi of the University of California, Berkeley, to deliver a special lecture titled “The Future of Reticular Chemistry in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” at the Jianhua Building, offering an in-depth exploration of emerging trends at the intersection of frontier chemical research and artificial intelligence.
At the closing ceremony, Li Yonglin, Deputy General Manager of Sinopec, delivered a lecture titled “Promoting the Deep Integration of Scientific and Technological Innovation with Industrial Innovation to Support and Lead the High-Quality Development of the Petrochemical Industry.” The forum also held the award ceremony for Outstanding Oral Presentations and the “Hundred Flowers of Chemistry” Outstanding Posters, presenting a total of seven Best Presentation Awards and fourteen Excellent Poster Awards.
In his concluding remarks, Professor Lu Yangcheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Chemical Engineering, encouraged young scholars to carry forward the traditions of chemical engineering and courageously shoulder the mission of the times.
