Professor Xu-Ming XIE graduated with B. Eng from the Dept. of Textile Engineering, Shinshu University, Japan in 1985. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Dept. of Organic and Polymeric Materials, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan in 1987 and 1990, respectively. From 1990 to 1992, he worked as a research scientist at Kawasaki Plastics Laboratory, Showa Denko, Ltd. (Japan). He has worked at Tsinghua University since 1992, and has been a professor since 1999. His current research areas cover: 1) Structure control and properties of multi-polymer systems. 2) Confined crystallization and phase separation of polymer systems. 3) Carbon nanotube, graphite, nano-fillers modified by polymers and nanocomposites 4) Polymer grafting and modification. 5) Polymer gels and Super absorbent polymers. He awarded Excellent Young Teacher award from Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 1993 and JSPS Visiting Professor Fellowship in 1999 and Georgy. T. Piercy Distinguished Visiting Professor award from Dept. of Chemical Engineering & Materials, University of Minnesota (USA) in 2002. He was also invited as a visiting professor in Chuo University, Japan from June to July in 2005. He has over 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and 16 patents.
