Chemical Engineering, a fast developing discipline in 21 st century, is based on chemistry, biology, material science and information science, involving all of related processes which can transfer the material to products, such as biological process, chemical process and physical process. Biological engineering, biomedical engineering and nano- engineering are becoming more and more important in chemical engineering discipline beyond traditional process industry, such as petrochemical engineering and chemical products. The employment of graduates widens to the realm of biology technology, biomedical, electronic material, energy science and environment.
Programs and Degrees
The present Department of Chemical Engineering has two disciplines: Chemical Engineering and Biological Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering.
Chemical Engineering and Biological Engineering
● Undergraduate Programs
The present Department of Chemical Engineering offers four-year undergraduate courses for B. Sc. The students will meet the needs for national key fundamental industry, such as chemical engineering, energy, resources, medicine and so on. They should study a variety of subjects outside the major fundamental courses (maths and physics). Basic theory and methods of chemistry, biology and chemical engineering will be carried out. After four-year education, the students should have the ability to serve the fundamental industry with modern scientific technology of chemistry and biology, even boost the research product transfer to industry. Overall, the students should be able to do scientific research, product & process design, R. & D. for new technology or equipment, technical administration and so on.
The annually recruitment for undergraduate students is 90.
The major fundamental courses are inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology as well as mathematics, physics, computer science and foreign language.
The emphasis courses for Chemical Engineering and Biological Engineering are Principles of Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Process System Engineering, Principles and Applications of Genetic, and The Cell Culture Technology.
● Ph.D. and Master's Programs
The Department of Chemical Engineering also offers additional two-year graduate courses leading to M.Sc. and post graduate programs for Ph.D. degree.
There are 30 doctoral supervisors in Chemical Engineering and Biological Engineering. We can enroll 30-35 postgraduate students for Ph.D. degree annually.
There are 3 research areas for master's program, namely Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry. Almost 50 supervisors can enroll 50 graduate students for Master degree annually.
The discipline of Chemical Engineering is approved as National Key Discipline by the Office of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
Polymer Science and Engineering
● Undergraduate Programs
New material is the foundation for development of national economy. Polymer material is developing fast in Material Sciences. It has important impacts on both the production and people's life style. The Polymer Science and Engineering in the Department will emphasize the research activity on information material, biology organism engineering material and high-performance polymer material. Moreover, we will widen the polymer application in a large realm, not only in petrochemical engineering, chemical engineering, energy science, environment protection, but also in information technology, medical parts of apparatus and space sciences. Polymer Science and Engineering has the intercross characteristics of both science and technology. After four-year education, the students should have the ability to do scientific research on new polymer material, R. & D. for material manufacturing and processing, technical administration and so on.
The annually recruitment for undergraduate students is 30.

Almost 10 teachers can enroll 20 graduate students for Master degree annually.
The discipline of Material Science (together with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering) is approved as National Key Discipline by the Office of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
Achromatopsia and color confusion should be forbidden for the recruit students in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Other physical conditions should consult the standards promulgated by MOE
